If you're a regular follower of our blog, you probably have noticed we've been making a lot of posts about the Honda hybrid lineup. That's because as far as eco-friendly cars go, the Japanese automaker has a lot to offer, and not just with quality cars, either. Honda is one of the top three brands responsible for improving the National Fuel Economy Average.

The survey, conducted by TrueCar, ranks the Japanese carmaker as third in the nation for the fuel economy numbers of its new Honda models. These rankings are scored against the industry-average of 23.7 miles per gallon, which our preferred automaker surpassed in spades.

The reason why Honda landed so high on the TrueCars survey probably has to do not only with the advances that the company has made with hybrid models, such as the Accord Plug-in, Civic Hybrid, and Fit EV, but their cars equipped with their Earth Dreams engines.

Cars equipped with Earth Dreams, which is offered in 4- and 6-cylinder variants, achieve higher miles per gallon than normal engines because of the emphasis they put on milking each drop of fuel for all the energy it's worth. The result? Strong performance, and winning fuel economy, making it no surprise that Honda ranked so high.
