
Did you ever see the movie, Drumline? It was a hit back in 2002 and followed the life of Devon Miles, a young drummer from Harlem who enrolls in a Southern university, with big dreams to lead its marching band’s drumline.
The Battle of the Bands is a real competition and it’s serious business. Eight of the country’s best marching bands compete annually, with only one being awarded the coveted spot of victor.
This year marked the 14th annual Honda Battle of the Bands (HBOB) Invitational Showcase, held in the Georgia Dome. Honda awarded more than $200,000 in institutional grants to the universities represented at this year’s event.
The top award went to the Lincoln University Orange Crush Roaring Lions, who wowed the crowd of thousands. It was the first time that the group had participated in HBOB and was one of the smallest bands that performed.
